Straight Creek Valley Farm
Straight Creek Valley Farm
Georgetown, Ohio
Welcome to Straight Creek Valley Farm, 63 acres of beautiful creek
bottom land, purchased by husband and wife,Greg Cole and Christine
Tailer, in the spring of 2003.  The farm lies three miles north of the Ohio
River in South central Ohio, about 50 miles, as the crow flies, southeast
of Cincinnati.   In August of 2007, Greg and Christine placed their city
house on the market  and moved out to the farm, living off of the grid
and learning to love an entirely new lifestyle.

1.  We have built an off the grid cabin, heated by a wood stove and
powered by
eight solar panels .  We designed the energy system after
tracking the valley's weather with a
weather station.
2.  We have built a windmill tower that hosts a 400 watt windmill to
backup the solar power,  assuming that the wind blows.
3.  We built and lived with the most beautiful outhouse in the county for
over one year, before we finished up the septic system.
5.  We have learned to cook in a solar oven and over a stone encircled
camp file.
6.  We now have ten  bee hives and have learned to sustainably care
for them and harvest their honey, but there was
nothing quite like our
first honey harvest.  We have also built a sugar shed so that we need
not get the cabin all stuck up with  the harvesting process. Learn about
7.  We have learned to identify sugar maple trees, collect their sap and
boil it down into
maple syrup.
8.  We have harvested our first black walnuts and learned the hard way
what not to do.

indigenous to  Straight Creek.
4.  We have built a 40' by 60' pole barn, with the help of our beloved
580D backhoe.
